Starting out, the best number of brand colours to use is 1-3. Beyond that, it may just clutter or confuse you and your audience. The goal here is maintain consistency. Hence limiting the number of colours would cause you less of a headache to figure out how to mix and match.
Use them everywhere in your printed materials, collateral, name card, website, newsletter signup page. Get people to associate this colours with you. Over time people will think of you when they see these colours.
Don’t make your audience think hard
Go straight to the point. Don’t make your audience think or guess what you are all about. Communicate what you do in the most simplest terms possible. Put yourself in your clients shoes, if they want to introduce your brand to someone else – what are they going to say?
Is your brand cool and chic? Are you nature-loving, warm and friendly? Are you classy and elegant? Reflect that in your copy and tone of your messaging.
Give yourself time to get a feel of being in your brand
Please tell yourself this: It’s okay to not get it perfect the first time round. Don’t get caught up with analysis paralysis. Don’t make the mistake of NOT making any branding decisions because you’re afraid of making the wrong one. Just get it done and put it out there. Sometimes all we need is to just function as a business and we get better familiarized with the business. Hence, with that new knowledge you have better judgment for your branding as well.
